Library Account FAQs

If you are a resident of or own property in Vernon Township, or are a student or teacher at the Mount Vernon Community School System, you are eligible for a card. Please bring your identification and proof of residence to the library in order to obtain a library card. We have reciprocal borrowing agreements with Pendleton Public Library and Hancock County Public Library. Patrons served by these libraries will also need to bring in their home library card.

No! Children and teens can get a library card. A parent or guardian is required to sign the card application, assuming financial liability.

Library card PINs and passwords are automatically set to be the last 4 digits of your phone number. If you need to reset your PIN or password, you may do so here.

If you are still unable to log in to your account, please call or email the library and we can help you reset your PIN number.

You can access information about your account by logging in to your Evergreen Account. My Account includes contact information, items you have checked out or on hold, your fines, preferences for Evergreen, and Lists. Each of the sections in the My Account area is described below.

We offer digital items through OverDrive and Hoopla!

You can check out items on OverDrive on any internet browser and through the Libby App on your phone. Download the Libby App from the Apple Store or on Google Play. On a computer, visit the Indiana Digital Library on for our OverDrive items or go to to download the Libby App.

You can check out items through Hoopla on or on the Hoopla App. 

You must login with your library card number and pin. If you forget your pin, contact the library to re-set your pin number.

Our Library is a member of Evergreen Indiana, a consortium of more than 100 libraries located throughout Indiana. The list of Evergreen Indiana member libraries that accept an VTPL library card can be found here:

If the item is not available through Evergreen, we will try to obtain it through Interlibrary Loan. Patrons may also recommend items that have been recently released, or will soon-be-released by completing the Purchase Recommendation form.

All library cards expire after a certain timeframe. Resident accounts are good for 2 years. Please visit the library with your photo-ID and library card to renew.

All other accounts (reciprocal borrowers, non-residents, and students) are good for 1 year. Please visit the library with your account specific requirements to renew (i.e., student ID, Pendleton/Hancock County library cards, etc.). 

Technology FAQs

Yes, you may print from a library computer, your own device, or a USB flash drive device. Directions on how to print from your own device are available here. Black and white printing is available for $.10 per page. See the full instruction sheet for more information.

Filtering software is used on all Library computers. Unfortunately, no filter is 100% effective. The best and most reliable filter for a minor is the presence of a parent or guardian.

Yes, the library reserves the right to revoke privileges for patrons who do not follow our Internet and Computer Use Policy.

Donation FAQs

We accept some donated items. For more information on what we accept, click on the acceptable donations button below. We also accept financial donations! Please contact the library if you would like to make a financial donation.
