Library FAQs

Library patrons must be residents or own property in Vernon Township. Please bring a government issued photo ID with current address and/or proof of residence.

Some exceptions are applicable:

  1. Employees and students of Mount Vernon Community Schools are eligible for library cards with proof of enrollment/employment.
  2. Vernon Township Public Library has reciprocal borrowing agreements with Pendleton Public Library and Hancock County Public Library. Patrons served by these libraries will need to show a government issued photo ID and their home library card.
  3. Individuals who reside outside of Vernon Township may purchase a library card for $35 a year.

There is not an age requirement, but minors must have a parent present when applying for a library card.

The last 4 digits of your phone number is automatically set as your library password. If you need to reset your password, you may do so here.

If you are still unable to access your account, please visit the library for assistance.

These error messages may mean:

  1. You are using the wrong password. If this is your first time logging into our online services, your password is the last four digits of your phone number. If you need to reset your password, you may do so here.
  2. Your account has expired. Please check your email for expiration notices.

Yes. Resident accounts expire after 2 years. Please visit the library with your photo ID and library card to renew.

All other accounts (reciprocal borrowers, non-residents, and the students/employees of Mount Vernon Community Schools) expire every year. Please visit the library with your account specific requirements to renew.

The Vernon Township Public Library does not have reservable rooms for public use; however, the McCordsville location has two study rooms and an innovation lab available to patrons. Please check for availability.

The Vernon Township Public Library does not charge fines on overdue materials; however, VTPL does charge for lost or damaged items.

Account information may be accessed via Evergreen.

Patrons may check out 100 items total, 10 of which may be DVDs or Blu-Rays.

Digital items may be accessed via Overdrive and Hoopla!

  1. Overdrive-Borrow eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines from any internet browser or install the Libby App to gain mobile access. (idl.overdrive.com)
  2. Hoopla-Stream movies and television shows, listen to music, and read eBooks and comics. (hoopladigital.com)

Your library card is valid at any Evergreen Indiana library. A list of participating libraries may be found here:

If Evergreen does not have an item, we will try to fulfill the request via Interlibrary Loan. Patrons may also recommend items that have been recently released, or will soon be released, by completing the Purchase Recommendation form.

Yes! You may print from a library computer, your own device, or a USB flash drive.

Black & White Printing
Letter (8.5″ x 11″): $0.10/page
Legal (8.5″ x 14″): $0.10/page
Tabloid (11″ x 17″): $0.25/page

Color Printing
Letter (8.5″ x 11″): $0.25/page
Legal (8.5″ x 14″): $0.25/page
Tabloid (11″ x 17″): $0.50/page

Yes! The page must be single sided, and the cost is $0.25 per page. The library does not receive faxes.

Please come to the circulation desk for faxing inquiries.

Although we strongly encourage obtaining a library card, a library card is not required to print, fax, or use the computers.

Yes! Prices are as follows:

Business/ID Cards: $0.50/page
Letter (8.5″ x 11″): $1.00/page
Tabloid (11″ x 17″): $1.50/page

Filtering software is used on all Library computers. Unfortunately, no filter is 100% effective. The best and most reliable filter for a minor is the presence of a parent or guardian.

Yes! The library reserves the right to revoke privileges if our Internet and Computer Use Policy is violated.

Donation FAQs

We are not accepting book donations at this time. However, if you are moved to gift a financial donation please contact the library.
