The Vernon Township Public Library has partnered with NineStar Connect to lease a 3,000 square foot space on the second floor of their new building in McCord Square. Our Fortville location (current building at 625 E. Broadway Street, Fortville) will remain open and without any changes to current hours or services. The new location in McCordsville is a second library location designed to meet the needs of our growing community and provide expanded services across Vernon Township.

Why is VTPL opening a second location?
Since 1986, the Vernon Township Public Library (VTPL) has operated at its 7,950 square foot location. This facility is too small to adequately serve the growth of Fortville, McCordsville, and the unincorporated Vernon Township area.
The library sits on less than one acre, and has extremely limited parking. Further, any addition to the existing building would require adherence to current building codes. The age of the library and site constraints make an expansion all but impossible.
Many residents are unaware that the library exists to serve them. To that end, a Task Force was created by the library’s Board of Trustees to analyze the issues facing VTPL. Through community discussions and its’ stakeholders, it became clear that the current library is insufficient to serve the community and expansion is necessary.
Will this project affect my taxes?
The McCordsville location will be funded with the library’s current budget. There is no impact on taxes. This will NOT RAISE TAXES or impact the funding received by any other governmental agency within the Township.
